In the UK, 1 in 5 adults are thought to be deficient in cholecalciferolis, more commonly called Vitamin D. Not only does the body need it to help regulate minerals, calcium and phosphorus, it also plays an important role in maintaining proper bone structure.
Also known as ascorbic acid, this water-soluble vitamin can only be stored by the body in small amounts. Mainly found in fruits and vegetables, vitamin C is an essential nutrient. The body needs it to form and maintain skin, bones and blood vessels.
Your body cannot produce vitamin B6, full name: pyridoxine hydrocloride, so you should get it from foods or supplements. The water-soluble vitamin helps metabolise protein, fat and carbohydrates, while also being important for creating red blood cells and neurotransmitters.
Vitamin A, or retinol, has many important functions like helping your immune system, the body’s natural defence against illness and infection, work properly. Or helping you see better in dim light. Think carrots.
